Anyone here from Kuwait or Iraq?

How do you feel about that Gulf War?

Hi, sorry I'm neither but one of my best friends was an Iraqi refugee, he fled here with his family because he was due to be called up for mandatory military service and his dad was having none of it. From his point of view many people were against Saddams regime but give little care to anything that happened in Kuwait. Apparently there is a lot animosity towards Kuwait because of their riches.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left!

I lived in Kuwait during the second Gulf War and had been there since 1994. There was the threat of air strikes from either Iraqi planes possibly flying Kamakazi missions, or scud missiles reaching the shores of Kuwait. Although quite a few of these missiles were launched at targets in Kuwait, many of them were intercepted. One or two of them did find their way to Kuwait but it did not cause any casualties (so far as I can remember). People were also concerned that there could be some form of biological warfare which prompted most people to buy gas masks, nothing really transpired.

It wasn't a terribly pleasant experience but Kuwait for the most part was not affected. No doubt people avoided going out for a few week but once American troops entered Iraq and toppled the regime, normal life resumes.

During the second Gulf War, there was an Iraqi citizen who put a blog out describing his experience of the bombing and war. It was rather interesting and he wrote in an objective manner for the most part with occasional editorializing because things around him sucked so much. Sorry, but I can't remember the name of the blog, but it was something like Where is Rahill. Has anyone heard of this?

What a great thread. I too would love to hear about how life is or was in Kuwait or Iraq and the feelings of their civilians. As an American living near Philadelphia the Middle East seems like it's a world away. You never hear from just regular ordinary people, it's always reporters, journalists, or elected officials.
