I think people take themselves too seriously reviewing movies. This is not meant to be a serious film. It is hilarious and witty and has some really cute tounge in cheek humor throughout. This movie holds up 17 years later.
I agree, just watched it for the first time since I was like 6, and thoroughly enjoyed, I love spotting all the famous people on it, Richard E Grant, Jools Holland, Jonathan Ross, Elton John etc.
Yes it is not a masterpiece by any means, but is a fun film, and a bit of fun, you need films like this to contrast the "very good" films, and you can't argue they helped feminism with their movie and "girl power" motto.
I agree, OP! It's a hilarious fun little film. Not masterpiece by nay means but that wasn't the point either. It is intentionally bad, and proud of it too. So how can I not like it?
