Zakk Snyder would be awesome!

I think Zakk Snyder would be perfect for a reboot or for Spawn 2! Just look at his past movies and his style and stuff, it would be awesome. He also loves comic books, and watching his past films, i believe he could REALLY translate spawn to the big screen and make it epic.

I agree. I'm watching this right now, and it is so TACKY. the only really good thing about this movie is John Leguizamo (spelling?) and yet it is still really stupid

After taking the most famous comic book of all time, "Watchmen" and making it into the most boirng, and uninspired (shot entirely in slow motion!!!) film I think he's far from making a good Spawn film.

What we need is a person who had read the first 10 issues, enjoyed them, and then decided to make it into a character driven action/drama.

@gaider, either you didnt see watchmen or you are just really stupid

reply

You've never read Watchmen, have you? It's nearly impossible to convert the GN to screen, and I enjoyed it just because I read the book and knew what was going on. Spawn isn't nearly as complicated as Watchmen, and would be much easier to pull off.

As soon as I saw this topics title I was like wait a minute, HELL YES! Zack Snyder always has those dark/sort of cartoony shots and thats exactly what Spawn should be like. Just make sure lots of blood and gore are involved, also please keep spawn black. Im white but I truly believe spawn should be black, just because it fits his character better than some white guy.

reply

haha:P, haha thats a stab stereotypicalness

reply

As long as its Michael Jai White. That guy is kick ass.

Michael Jai White is awesome, im surprised he isnt a bigger movie star. His martial arts is excellent. I hope they reboot Spawn. Show how Spawn was born, make the story rich in content, no need to rush everything, they can make it a trilogy out of this.

Watchmen was NOT that bad. "Shot entirely in slow motion!!!"? I understand why people don't enjoy his use of slo-mo, but c'mon, it wasn't that bad.

reply

Please no, the slomo is getting annoying and old. If not Todd MacFarlane, I think a black director should take up the project like Ernest Dickerson, the Hughes brothers, or, dare I say it, Melvin Van Peebles.

You think Zack Snyder would be perfect because of "his style and stuff"? You do know he's only made 3 movies in his entire career...

reply

DAWN OF THE DEAD! great remake....I have no problem with Zack.

reply

A lot of people don't seem to like his style for graphic novels. The slow motion is to be seen as a moving "still image". Some call it annoying.

I think it's a cool, new artistic expression with efxs. I'd see his Spawn remake if he did it.

reply

I don't think he would be a good choice, he relies to heavily on CGI-effects.
Perhaps Clive Barker or Cronenberg, the effects in some of their movies look terrific as long as they use practical effects.

reply

Its Spawn .... not romeo and juliet. Efx and Spawn kinda goes hand in hand.

Clive Barker lost his touch imo. I'd say Robert Rodriguez, Danny Boyle Or Takashi Miike

reply

Lol Was gonna say the same thing!

reply

I'm not saying there shouldn't be any sfx, just that it should be used in moderation. But i can agree about Takashi Miike, he could do something great with Spawn.

reply

How do you know Barker lost his touch? He hasn't directed a movie in quite some time. Lord of Illusions was the last film he directed, and although it wasn't great, it doesn't mean he lost his touch. I think we need a new movie by him that he actually directs and writes to see if he has lost it or not. His vision has always been compromised, so I'd like to see him unrestrained doing a Spawn movie.

reply

OH MY GOD YOU ARE SOOO RIGHT!! NOT SARCASM! Zack Snyder is the perfect director for spawn

reply

I'd rather see Christopher Nolan make a new Spawn movie!

reply

I think Zack Snyder could be an excellent, excellent choice to make a Spawn movie. He's shown twice already that he's able to make not only a visually breathtaking, but also very faithful comic book adaptation. Spawn is very much about the visuals, and Snyder and Co. have always been able to create amazing looking films that look like they're taken straight out of their books. It would also be a plus if he got Alex McDowell back for production design. The Crow films and Watchmen have absolutely amazing setpieces, and I believe they could make a great looking world for Spawn. I'd especially love to see a Hell designed by McDowell.

So, I agree, Zack Snyder would make a great choice for a new Spawn flick. I'd actually prefer that over Todd doing it on his own.

Why? Christopher Nolan already has two comic book characters, and I wasn't too impressed with where he went with Batman. I don't really care for his need to keep things as realistic as possible.

Zach Snyder wouldn't be too bad if he tried to make it a Spawn film and not the Watchmen or 300 repeated. Both films had the same feel to them, which is alright, but he should try to progress and change it up a bit from there.

If Guillermo Del Toro directed it similar to the way he filmed the Hellboy films, I think we'd have a better Spawn on our hands.

If not him, maybe somebody like Christophe Gans...I really like the look and feel of Silent Hill.

crack.

reply

Did someone mention Cronenberg? I would watch that.

reply

Del Toro would be great...the animated series from HBO felt more like what I felt the first movie should have been. Snyder's slow-motion style was tired and boring BEFORE he did it the first time in "300" (he can thank Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez completely for his "style"), I would hate to see him screw up any future "Spawn".

reply

It's not as though Spawn is any deeper than anything Zack has adapted before. Honestly, despite how some may feel about his use of slow-mo, he at least always has some cool looking imagery. Which is really all Spawn is about, when you really get down to it.

"Dawn of the Dead" was good. It was the only movie he DIDN'T use that effect in. I think "Spawn" could be a great movie...the animated film is fantastic.

reply

If Nolan made Spawn, Bale would be Spawn.. he would also be the clown, Wynn, the two detectives, Oh and Gary oldman would be there too.

Nolan is so overrated..

By the way everyone Mcfarlane (spelling?) said himself he wouldn't make another spawn movie unless he had FULL control.

Sounds like he was not happy handing it over the first time. It's a damn shame too because these days Spawn fits perfectly, he would be accepted and the technology we have would back up the effects needed to do it right.

reply

I totally agree! he should really do a Reboot especially with todays technology the movie would look AWESOME!

reply

His got the technology and one of the best action style..
i hope this idea get's to him.

reply

Unless Superman does badly, he'll move on to bigger franchises, but I agree.

reply

I think Ryûhei Kitamura would do a good job with Spawn.

I think an unknown European director should take helm, someone who likes Spawn and someone who has clever ideas of how to use CGI. Sometimes, bringing in something fresh can be really rewarding. I personally liked the style of Suckerpunch, a Spawn movie with that style would be great, but ditch the slow-motion. Actually, if done right, someone can pull off some scenes in fast-motion.

reply

You mean Zack Snyder.

I will admit I know very little about the Spawn character. With that said, I think Zack Snyder would be a good choice for a director to reboot. I enjoyed his movies 300 (2007) as well as Watchmen (2009), even though I wasn't blown away by either of them. Overall, the only other director mentioned on this post I think would be equally suitable is Guillermo Del Toro. I mostly loved Hellboy (2004), enjoyed its sequel, and Pan's Labyrinth is probably one of my favorite movies.

I noticed that no poster mentioned this director, but perhaps David Fincher?

reply

no, for f-cks sake no

it's bad enough he f-cked up watchmen and superman, but he's taking on batman as well

the 1 minute trailers for his movies look good, it's when he has to direct full length movies is when he has trouble

his "style" is atrocious, it's basically just michael bay's (which is bad enough), but slowed down

everything he does (sans that owl movie) has to be "crazy, sexy, cool, tits, slo-mo, herp derp, ooga booga"...the mong is perpetually 14 years old

he does not "get it"
