Actually Simon whispers "Number 2" as Tretnik (wtvr his name was) and his son are taken prisoner. So that would give us 3 miracles.

Zandusku:
You are correct in naming the miracles and in mentioning the various changes from novellas to movies. As a writer, I can tell you from personal experience that novels and/or novellas tend to be entirely too descriptive or have too many plot twists and sub-plots to have the entire novella/novel created within a screenplay and have EVERYTHING included. It would be limiting and difficult to stick completely by a manuscript when turning it to a screenplay. If everything written could be included, you would end up with something close to another Gone With The Wind, Patton, or Scarlett. - It just isn't done due to time constraints and limitations on actors who would work better in a particular role irregardless of hair color, eye color, age... (ie. Signs, the movie with Mel Gibson was actually written for an older man but was rewritten to support a man of Mel Gibson's age with young children for instance) **it happens and we generally enjoy what goes to the screen better than what could have gone had someone without a will to compromise had been in charge.
Thank you so much for explaining to William, the former poster, that while there are missing sections in the movie, it does not take away from the thorough telling of the story itself. I especially appreciate those that took time to list all three miracles even if the only way Simon could truly become a saint is to die and go through the process regulated by the Vatican and more importantly, the Pope himself.

There was clearly stated in the movie #2, when the Russian mob father and son got arrested. He said so himself.
