why wasnt one of the the goofs.....
the fact that in the movie the character Tretiak addresses a crowd in russia in ENGLISH! If this isnt a big goof in the movie i dont know what is.
sharethe fact that in the movie the character Tretiak addresses a crowd in russia in ENGLISH! If this isnt a big goof in the movie i dont know what is.
shareThe majority of the movie was set in russia and often between russians... would you have prefered an 'authentic' subtitled movie?
shareYea I hate to say it, but I think you might be taking this part a bit too literally. I think it is just said in English along with other lines just so we can pay more attention to the film itself. This is often done to avoid using subtitles so the audience can focus on the movie rather than reading it.
So therefore I believe it is understood that he is actually speaking Russian to the crowd, but it is shown in English for the sake of the audience.
What about all the countries where all foreign movies are with subtitles, including my own very little country? Are we not paying enough attention to the movie itself? I´m sorry but I couldn´t stop laughing when I read your comment.
shareLooking at your posts makes me laugh.
Why would an American movie be in another language and then subtitle it? If it's a foreign movies then subtitles are appropriate, but all countries make movies in their language, to do otherwise would be dumb.
I considder it a goof too, especially because Emma (who most likely did NOT understand Russian) understood an internal Russian conversation.
shareWhat conversation was that? I just watched the movie again and didn't see anything.

The Passion of the Christ was primarily done for Americans and the whole movie was done in Armaic and had English subtitles the entire movie.
Also The Truth About Charlie was definately an American film and lots of times French was spoken w/ English subtitles.
And I'm not positive if Amelie was a French film only but it was in theaters here and that had english subtitles..
Hey how is everything going?
I must have seen the Saint four or five times but I am sure you have seen it more.
One of my favorite scenes is of Emma driving her beatle to meet simon at his house in the woods of England. There is music in the background that unfortunately does not make it to the sound track. does anybody have any idea where that comes from and whether I can either download it, or buy it somewhere?
I would appreciate any help
thanks,
Adam
byw- putting subtitles would have ruined the movie.

Characters talk English b/c they are played by American actors, and they would sound funny talking Russian with a thick English accent :)
Just look at Bourne Supremacy - I am Russian, but could hardly make it out and had to read subtitles.
If you want a language-related goof, Tretiak's list of Emma's publications (at German station) is labelled "Labour and Payroll report".
Five words: The Hunt for Red October. This film had a great transition from Russian to English for the sake of understanding the film. I am thinking of the scene where the Political Officer was quoting the book in Ramius' cabin.
Also, Sean Connery played the Russian Captian, Marko Ramius, with a scottish accent, and no one complained about that film.
In The Saint the only problem would be that Simon was not a linguist. He was listening in on the conversation between Tretiak and the others in the coup, the conversation would have been in Russian (or heavily accented Engllish for the sake of the audience), however we already saw Simon rehersing the single line "Move to the other limo." Why would he reherse this if he already could speak Russian? This was the only time I thought they forgot this point.
