KKK Poster???
What's with the KKK Rally poster in the scene after the embassy chase scene? The scene where the son is getting his face looked at by a physician??

shareI think it is a campaign poster for the bad guy's political party. Maybe a poster saying that the current guy in office is linked to the KKK. I am not sure though.
shareIt's a propaganda poster styled like former Communist advertising during Nazi rule. That's all. There is no swastika, Nazi, or Ku Klux Klan affiliation or suggestion.

the affiliation is assumed because the poster says, " Ku Klux Klan" and references a specific meeting in some town in Alabama.
I am wondering why the hell an Alabama KKK poster is in a office in Moscow.
I've got the scene paused on the DVD as I type this.
RALLY
KU KLUX KLAN
KNIGHTS
KLAN DAY
ALABAMA, GEORGIA
OCTOBER 13 1997
October 13, 1997 was a Monday.
There does not seem to be a town named Alabama in Georgia.
Now, it could be just a visual reference to the fact that Tretiak is the villian of the movie.
Note that there is a region of Russia known as Georgia.
Perhaps this poster is an insiders reference to events/people/places in the books, TV show, or other movies.
Or maybe it was saying Klan Day was to be observed in both Alabama and Georgia, two very southern states that have been known to have Klan members living there. Probably a makes more sense.
Why does it matter that it was a Monday?
But yes, it was most likely reinforcing the idea that he's the bad guy and possibly racist.
Yes, that poster is there and it probably implies that Ilya is a racist. Remember that during the embaassy chase scene he actually spits in the face of a black Marine. Was that scene deleted in the American version? I know there are two versions of this movie with alternate endings.

I agree, I think it is just a way of reminding the viewer that these guys are scum and probably into any and all kinds of villiany.
Also, this might just be a coincidence -
Early in the film, we learn that 'John Rossi' decided to call himself 'Simon Templar', after 'Simon Magus' and the 'Knights Templar'.
The Church, in collusion with Phillip the Fair, King of France, had the Templars arrested on October 13, 1307.
It should be our Flag.
shareI -honestly - think he was using it as inspiration, using the KKK in Georgia (US) and Georgia (Russia) as a kind of symbol. He wanted to rule, like the KKK. Curiously, the irnoy is lost- that the KKK power in the US was fading - but so was he.
