I guess they were more strict then.... how did this get an Rated R? I thought it would be PG-13... no different than Clueless. I don't remember them swearing that much or any dirty scenes or nudity.... These days, there's nudity, blood, killing and it still gets a PG-13...
hi :: i would say.. after just now re-watching the film.. it is purely the amount of times they use the word *beep* in the dialogue. for heather's character it is at least 3 times.. also.. there is a big close up of romy saying it at the reunion.. it is a great shot actually! i watched it when i was young and found the film very uplifting.. which it is.. and i still do.. plus i simply did not take any notice of the "profanity". personally.. i speak several languages.. i write.. arguably well at times {hehe!} and also i enjoy the plethora of words in the english language! words can be cathartic and empowering.. especially if used well. so it is rather sad that some people take "swearing" so seriously.. and that "cuss words" have such a bad stigma. there are many more important things to care about in this world. :::: love and peace ::::
well ok then.. in my first reply it seems "the f word" was changed from me typing it as "f asterisk asterisk k".. to *beep* {"asterisk beep asterisk"} fair enough i suppose.. given that so many people sadly do not have the restraint to limit their use of cussing! cuss! hehe! i so loved wes anderson's 'fantastic mr. fox'.. it was brilliantly done. highly recommended.. ooh! and 'moonrise kingdom' is wonderful too. ^_^ :::: love and peace ::::
p.s. i also noticed what you said about nudity and violence etc. {especially regarding cruelty and violence!} i think it is of far more importance than words in the concept of the rating of a film or other program. plus i am rather annoyed that i censored myself in my previous reply with "the f word".. for the reason that it seems to be forbidden in this forum. {at least.. i have not seen it anywhere so i didn't want my other words to be blocked.} anyway :: as human beings.. we are highly visual.. we are affected by what we see. film and television are both clearly a primarily visual situation. i find i am often very heady and.. well.. i suppose to describe it further.. i feel somewhat like i am still in the world of whatever film i have watched after coming out of a cinema. even hours down the track.. usually until whenever i next sleep. {which is technically where my brain would process everything i took in that day including a film for example.. and there are some things you cannot un-see!} anyway :: this little extra essay {!} seemed to come after re-reading your original post.. i was reminded by some unexpected violent scenes in films and shows i have seen.. and just that it does.. in some way.. lessen your sensitivity to it.. which cannot really be a good thing. we are still humans.. and being human.. we have the capacity for reason.. we are capable of greatness.. and above all capable of great kindness. so really.. isn't that what we should focus most of our energy on? {ok :: this is getting to be an actual thesis of sorts! apologies....} don't get me wrong.. i enjoy entertainment.. give me a good heist film and i will most probably watch it.. ^_^ i love many films.. all across the board.. many with bits of needless violence.. but it is never for the violence. perhaps it is that lately i haven't really wanted to watch shows or films that aren't uplifting or positive. sorry for the lengthy replies. :::: love and peace ::::
