This movie reaches the zenith of unfunny...

Yes, I know this is a 'screwball' or 'slapstick' comedy about the misadventurous trip to Mars. I consider myself to have a really good sense of humor, so maybe I'm in the minority of people who found this movie to rate about a .03 out of 10 for comedy. Obviously there are loads of technical flaws, aside from the fact that the cheesy ship that went to Mars is the space shuttle (at least it was when they use the stock footage showing the launch) then switches to something 'resembling' the space shuttle except with the cargo doors on the bottom of the ship and it looks pregnant. The craft itself must be huge, as to extert its own gravity too and allow for so much freedom of movement. Ok, aside from that and the paper-thin plot, poor acting, jokes that fall flatter than a two-week old open can of pop and special effects that were atrocious (Total Recall came out 7 years earlier and was far superior), other than that it was a huge waste of time.

I've even seen Harlan Williams do stand-up and all I can say it wasn't just the script that made him seem dull, lifeless and childish. I won't go as far to say avoid everything he's in, but DO NOT waste your precious waking hours on this 'movie'.

i believe you mean "this movie is the nadir of 'funny'"

reply

I thought this movie was awesome, the whole movie was hilarious. Who cares about the special effects, it's a comedy. Special effects aren't important to a comedy.

...You'll get over it.

"Give me your power-flowin', juicy-glowin', red hot MEANING OF LIFE!"

Dont you dare put this movie on an unfunny scale. There are much much worse comedies out there. Dumb and Dumberer for example. That movie had about 2 funny scenes in the ENTIRE movie. And they both involved Bob Saget and his *beep* yelling.

reply

...you thought Bob Saget was funny? (shudders)

reply

Saget was tha bomb in "Half Baked" yo! XD lol

Uh oh. Underwear on the highway. Uh oh.

reply

ironically, harland williams' scene in the original dumb and dumber is a show stealer

For a second I thought you were putting down dumb and dumber (The original) I was about to whip out the slapstick and beat you with it..LOL

I agree, the 2nd dumb and dumber (Dumberer) wasn't very good.

Movies like these make it easier in countries like mine, where they keep broadcasting crap like this on PBS (which we are bound by law to pay for), to actually break the law on good grounds. THIS IS UTTER U.S CRAP! Can't believe that Beau Bridges (even though he has a knack for choosing bad movies) participated in this piece of garbage. Wasn't the Naked Gun enough for ppl wanting and needing this kind of degraded humour? And if not, catch the NG-series instead and give this movie a miss!

reply

did you just insult the naked gun movie?

you just lost your privilege to have an opinion on comedy

this movie is HILARIOUSLY funny, and all I have to say is that u ppl who are too freakisly stupid to never actually enjoy a movie without picking out flaws should just get a life.

reply

I love you people who degrade people and insult them for not liking a movie you like lol...absolutely despicable if you ask me!!!

I love a ton of slapstick and goofy movies,,,and i'm not one to pick apart small flaws,plot-holes,editing,acting or directing issues in any loosely based comedy.

But it was just unfunny,,and i found the lead wayyy too annoying,as opposed to being funny in any sense.

But,,unlike a lot of peeps, im not here to bash the peeps who loved or liked it,,thats your perogative,,,i'm just here with the few people who didnt enjoy it,and guess what!?!?!?!

THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!!

Telling the OP or anyone else that they're an idiot for not liking it is just immature....and plain silly.

I watched it for the sole reason that it had so many good comments here, now i regret it,,but that wont stop me from coming back here for more opinions on unseen movies....Plus i laugh a lot reading you folks argue/debate lol

But the derogatory statements i can do without...So have fun bashing me cus i didnt like either lol

Have atter!!!!

Your post may have said something relevant or interesting (ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU USED SO MANY CAPITALS AND EXCLAMATION POINTS AND QUESTION MARKS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!???!?!?!?!!!!?!?!?!?!!??!!11), but I had to stop reading when you started referring to people as 'peeps'.

Come on man, chill out. It's a bit sad that you spent so much time bashing a movie that was obviously meant for kids. It's a great family movie. I don't think anyone expects a person like you to watch it and think it's a comedy masterpiece, but if you're a 5 year old kid then that's exactly what you think it is. I saw this when I was 5, and I don't exactly remember what I thought of it, but I know I saw it millions of times before I turned 10. When I watch it now I still find it funny, because having seen it through a five year old's eyes, I'm able to continue to appreciate it. It's a great movie, and I just showed it to my little cousin and she loved it. Just chill out, pick a better movie to bash.

RocketMan was really cringe-inducing when Williams sung in "Chinese"! To paraphrase Mike Nelson from MST3K, "This is what happens when some guy thinks he's a hoot and he gets a part in a movie!"

A fan of 'Dumb and Dumber' recommended 'Rocketman', but it just didn't do anything for me. It was just OK, though I do find Harland Williams funny.

In any case, 'Rocketman' is a rather sad example of a DVD. Outside of dollar bin public domain film DVDs, I never thought I'd see a major studio release a movie on DVD without chapter stops.

Perhaps anyone else who wasn't impressed MIGHT enjoy the silly Australian comedy 'The Castle' (1997). Maybe not as 'laugh out loud' as some have described 'Rocketman' (though maybe for some it will be), but I think it will at least bring a smile to your face.
