Question about the monster *spoilers*

*spoilers*

Not gonna post a "what caused the guy to become a monster" thread, we already have 100 of those. Yeah, I get it, the tribe turned him into a monster so it would go out and eat their enemies....

What I wanted to ask was, does the monster retain any of its human memories after the transformation. IE, is it still Dr. Whitney in there? If so, that's sort of sad. I mean, it's sad anyway, what did Whitney do to deserve being changed into a hideous beast? :P

But if he's still human in there, and just trapped into a cycle of killing because of an addiction to human brain chemicals, that's sort of a tragedy. I don't think the monster's death needs to be a cause of celebration. If anything, they need to hunt down that tribe and burn their village to the ground.

Yes.According to the novel,It kept a pocketwatch and a medallion with it`s family crest from it`s former life in it`s lair. The tribe and the plant were exterminated by developers in the novel as well.Hopefully that did`nt spoil the book for anyone.

reply

Yes. Because it also seemed to recognize Margo at the end and hesitated killing her for a moment.

In the book, the beast happens to have some former memories of his past and its suppose to be a lot sadder because it tries to not kill for its survival but has no choice because it needs the chemical, but here in the movie the guy turns and the beast is just pure instinct. The book version is a lot more tragic than the movie version we get

reply

I agree. The book version of the monster is more tragic, but the creature in the movie was certainly much fiercer than the creature in the book.
