Stern won't watch the movie today

Stern mentioned a few weeks ago that he tried to sit down with his (new) wife and watch it and they couldn't get into it. I think it had to do with when him and his former wife were trying to have a baby in the movie.

I find it wierd, I mean, this was this guys life and a chronology of the beginning of his radio career and start of his family (and, he is still close with his daughters.) He spent all that time on the book and the production of this, it seems a waste.

I mean, you can't really blame the new wife (who is younger, but not nearly as young as other guys in his situation might have got with.) He constantly reminds her he doesn't want anymore kids, and I guess you can't really know how she feels about it.

It makes you sad becuse the guy can't watch his own creation. It also makes you think he probably doesn't have a very good relationship with his ex, so in a way, this is a hard movie to take now. On top of that, giving the timeline it was probably these type of projects that broke up his family.

I still like the movie, but the scenes with Alison take some of the sweetness out of the movie given what people know now.

Private Parts was some self indulgent *beep* at the time and still is. Why should Howard or his wife watch it now? It's like bringing up an ex-girlfriend to your wife.

Some people can't watch themselves on screen. They are their own worst critics. Also, at the time they did this film, there was no way they were going to know what would happen down the road.

I don't think Stern has a problem watching himself on screen, I think its the relationship btw himself & Allison that probably makes him uncomfortable.

After the movie came out I actually became a fan of his because it was obvious his radio personality was just a character and he was really an ok guy at home. After the divorce I just can't get into him anymore.

Same thing happened w/ the Dog Whisperer guy.

I'm a little disappointed to read this. I admittedly don't know much about Stern's private life, and I don't listen to him that often (obviously) or I would probably know about the divorce since he holds nothing back, private or otherwise.

However, I saw the movie for the first time on TV last night and after watching it, I really came away with a whole new respect for Howard Stern because I was thinking-here is this guy who is so abrasive and always came across as a sexist pig, and yet behind the scenes he had this very sweet love story with a woman who was the love of his life. It's actually a very warm and fuzzy kind of movie that leaves you with a positive feeling-a feeling that such a love can exist despite all the cynicism of show business.

I was one of those who always found his on-air shenanigans with countless strippers and porn stars a bit disgusting, so it was very refreshing to realize that through it all, he was actually this very sweet and very vulnerable family man just trying to make an honest living by doing what he does best-and, okay, occasionally getting in the tight predicaments with some hottie, but it only made him all the funnier and more sweet.

I came here today because, after enjoying the movie so much, I was curious and wanted to read more about it. This was the first post I saw and it was really a letdown. I guess there really isn't any such thing as true love in show business.

This was one of my older posts.

Stern has seen the movie again, and posted during it pretty much a blow by blow twitter during it. He even spoke about his divorce in Rolling Stone Magazine saying it was the hardest thing he had to deal with.

A lot like he doesn't discuss Artie Lange, he doesn't talk too directly about Allson. It's pretty much out of respect. He spoke about his divorce on air, but didn't play any blame cards. Niether Howard or Allison stayed single that long.

Point is, you hear on air he is very close to his daughters, and I'll bet he is still closer to Allison than people think, he just isn't talking about her probably for a lot of reasons. As a listener, I think some really good material is lost with Allison (she called in much more than his new wife does,) but I guess you have to draw the line sometimes.

I'm glad to hear that. Also, I figured he must have softened his stance about the movie at some point because he was hosting last night's showing.

He hosted it?! Wow, Stern usually doesn't do that kind of thing. Wish I could have seen that, I saw that it was on, but I had seen it so many times and it was censored (although, I'd like to see if they put anything alternative in it as a time filler,) now I wish I'd seen it. If you see it on again, let me know-- sounds like we're in the same time zone.

I don't think he hosted it, I think that was the television version already edited. The HS you saw "hosting" was clearly 10+ years younger than the HS of today.

Howard couldn't watch the movie with Beth. He just felt uncomfortable sitting with his new wife watching a movie about him and his old wife.

He watched it alone a few months ago and did a play-by-play on Twitter, sort of a Twitter DVD commentary. No one's done that before so it made some news. So he can watch it and enjoy it and be proud of it, as long as his new wife is not around.

Yes, he's extremely close to his daughters and is a great dad. He won't talk in detail about them because he's very protective of them, but when he does talk about them he gushes, and also bemoans the fact that they're all growing up and moving away. And yes, he does see Allison on occasion at family events and undoubtedly still cares for her (just a few days ago he said how thankful he was that Allison was so good looking so his daughters got her looks and not his), but he doesn't talk about her on the radio because that was in the divorce settlement, that he couldn't really discuss her. And yes, undoubtedly he has some resentment towards Allison because she really wiped him out in the divorce, which he can't talk about either but has implied in the past. Although that was pre-Sirius contract so I think he's over that by now, and very thankful she didn't get a piece of that action.
