one question

I actually enjoyed this film despite all the bad hype. It wasnt amazing but it was well done and entertaining. My question is this; If the US had fallen into a state of recession and technology basically failed to exist anymore.... how was he able to find a run down abandoned gas station and then the TV worked? That was the only part that bothered me a-lot. We are shown that the people enjoy crappy plays since they are so deprived of entertainment... yet they could just be watching cable? Hell his TV guide was even still accurate! Just something I thought odd.

If you look at the FAQ set, you will find that "the working TV" was a figment of "Gordon Krantz'" imagination. BTW, I'm a big fan of David Brin's book, which was as visually expansive as the movie was...not quite there.

I take it Gordon Krantz was his name in the novel?

Yes. When I saw the movie for the first time, the "I don't know what my name is" thing threw me off. But I set it aside as "the man with no name" traveled hither and yon, mangling Shakespeare and bringing pageantry and entertainment to settlements that had seen none for far too long. One thread that ran throughout the book was Responsibility. In the end, "Gordon Krantz" put on this heavy cloak and began the long task of making "The Restored United States of America" a reality.
