I must be missing something...

..but why the hell are the Americans even involved in this situation?

A Nuclear Weapon detonates inside Russian territory, The enemies are either Russian or Eastern European, you don't even find out that New York is a target until after Americans INVADE Russian airspace.

What the hell is going on here? Why are the Americans involved in something that isn't even their business?

The United States and Russia have a big history together (Cold War anyone?) so an unscheduled nuclear detonation in Russia would certainly be of interest to the american military and government.

Would you have preferred George Clooney to play a norwegian secret agent? ;)

Regardless, the event occoured inside Russia. America may of been conserned, but actually invading Russia with 3 attack helicopters??? That is an act of war, regardless of their intentions.

reply

you probably overslept the part where they notice that it was a-bomb smuggling out of russia they werei nvading airspace for, not the explosion.

I have a feeling that you're way off on this.

He probably missed the discussion between the Special Forces LT COL and the head of the Nuclear Smuggling Group, but the decision to enter Russian airspace was not debated lightly.

And someone from Russian military intelligence was involved, until the bad guys killed him in Vienna.

The US Military and Russian Military were working on a joint disarmament plan to disarm a number of nuclear weapons. When a bunch of Russian nukes disappeared in the blast, it was an important matter to the US to help find those weapons (especially if there was a rouge Russian military group responsible which might compromise the Russians efforts to go after one of their own) to ensure Russia wasn't reneging on their end of the deal.

reply

So, what you are saying is America should just stand around and do nothing while 10 nuclear bombs are smuggled, dissapear and are sold to whoever wants to use one?! It was clear Russia was not in position to stop them from leaving the country. I would call that helping.

reply

Americans idea of "help" when it involves another country usually resembles invasion, torture and murder of suspects and other illegal and excessive measures.

But the fact is that an explosion in Russia does not justify a US invasion of Russia etc.

If the Americans had intelligence on the event - which they did not, merely assumptions - they ought to have given it to the Russians, and kept out of it.

The film is of course fiction, but it does reflect the real world arrogance of the USA.

George Clooney's cold-blooded murder of wounded "bad guys" also reflects the modern American attitude, which has a strong resemblance to the Wild West mentality and "justice", lynch mobs and all.
