A real Nick Fury movie?

Has anybody heard anything about a REAL nick fury movie being made at all? I can't believe Marvel allowed this POS to be made.

Yeah, but then he wouldn't be Nick Fury, would he? Its kinda like having Will Smith Star in Wild Wild West as Jim West... and that didnt do so well.

Well, that's just a dumb idea. A black sergeant would not have led a white platoon in WWII. They still had the Blacks and Whites segregated in that war. This is PC out of control. What's next, Black Honeymooners?

reply

In Marvel's Ulitmate line, they retconned Fury so he was sergeant in the Gulf War, and based his appearance on Samuel L. Jackson. That's why they got Sam to paly him in Ironman.

reply

he actually led an integrated platoon in the comics

It's hilarious that the hardest thing to believe in the Marvel Universe is a black person in a position of authority, people flying and shooting lasers out of every orifice is fine but a black person? oh hell no.

reply

I thought Fred Ward will play him!???

reply

2008 release apparently..Although I don't think they've done much to it..

reply

I would have made Nick Fury a black guy anyway if i were the director. I never saw Nick Fury as a white guy but I would cast Samuel L. Jackson with the role. He has the bald head, the mustache and he's black. All he needs is an eyepatch and he's Nick Fury.

reply

nick fury would cast himself as Samuel Jackson, he said so in the ultimates series

before the ultimates nick fury as the white guy was pretty one dimensional, and also he smoked cigars, which we can't have in comic books anymore.

Who knows mabey they'll be an ultimates or avengers the movie one day

reply

Going black was the BEST thing that ever happened to Nick Fury.

How far up would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck would chuck up?

reply

Nick Fury smoking cigars was like James Bond drinking a Martini! it's like his Trademark!

reply

thats because the ultimate version of NIck Fury was based on Samuel L Jackson as he was approached and asked if nick Fury could be based on him. In addition he also said he woud be interested in playing the character.

Okay, it is my personal opinion that no time soon should an Ultimate Marvel character get a movie. They've already been dishing out the classic Marvel characters. Also, the Ultimate Nick Fury sucks. The Ultimate Spider-man sucks. Nick Fury, as a white, take-no-crap commander is the way to go. In this case, race seems like a big issue. I just do not think it makes sense to make Nick Fury a black guy for the heck of it. If they wanted to use a Samuel L. Jackson type of character, they didn't have to go and try to ruin the great Nick Fury.

Also, he has an active role in the current Marvel storylines, which kind of makes it all murkier.

I say that if they are going to make a new Nick Fury movie they should do the original and go all out with it, and then maybe look into future options.

reply

i like the alternate versions and background stories of the ultimate universe characters very interesting.

and any way Samuel L jackson is a take no crap kinda guy too!! muhahaha MAce Windu away lol!!

I actualy preffer white Nick though i think the Black ones really cool to. i think it will probably be the Black version and if so it sould be Samual playing him.

reply

I think black was cool, but my personal Nick Fury is white. A large part of that is because my Nick Fury also led a squad of troops in WWII, and I don't think a black commander would have been allowed to do that back then, although they should have.

And nick fury was never one dimensional, he just was in cross-overs used by authors who didn't take time to understand him, or didn't have room in the script.

reply

If you are going to do Nick Fury, you have to base it on the classic Steranko run. Steranko wrote the book on cinematic comics (after studying Will Eisner's Spirit) and provided everything a good movie needs

The Ultimate line Fury is just Samuel L. Jackson on paper. Not bad, but not unique, like the original Fury.

At one point, allegedly, George Clooney was interested, until he saw the MAX imprint Fury mini-series, and dropped out, completely disgusted (much like my reaction to the story). It's a shame, as Clooney would be perfect for the Steranko Fury.

reply

Wait, how did a question on whether Nick Fury would be made into a serious film become a debate on whether the black Nick Fury was cooler than the white one. The answer is: NEITHER! It should be based on the MAX Garth Ennis incarnation, the old bitter Cold War veteran.

reply

That wouldn't be so bad either, I suppose, but if they did that they'd have to mesh the two and either rewrite the whole backstory or at least make it smoother. The chief problem with Nick Fury in a movie is the Infinity Serum. This sort of plot device works for other superheroes, but Nick Fury doesn't exactly fit the definition of superhero. So the World War II thing wouldn't make much sense to the casual viewer.

he is playing him in the upcoming iron man film and will later feature in the soon to be announced avengers movie

reply

does no one else thing George Clooney with an eye patch would have been a kick ass nick fury

reply

Like I said before, Clooney would have been great, whether they wanted to keep the ties with WW II or modernize Fury. That said, the Ennis book was horrible, so I don't blame Clooney for passing (allegedly).

I always thought a younger Robert Stack would have been a fun choice for the 1960's. He looked fairly similar. I can just hear him saying, "ya' old walrus!" to Dum Dum.

p.s. As to Sgt Fury, Gabe Jones was Marvel's attempt at being PC. Black soldiers served in segregated units and wouldn't have been in a special operations unit like the Howlers, unless a black unit was acting in support. That said, there were many highly decorated black units, who saw some of the fiercest combat, as well as the Nisei (Japanese American) division.

I suspect any movie version of Fury would jettison WWII and go for the Gulf War instead, although the Ultimate Fury is tied to WWII. I wouldn't mind Sam Jack, but would still like to see a reasonable attempt at Steranko Fury. Maybe Steranko could give it a try. He couldn't be much worse tha Frank Miller as a director.
