I mean, the first one was actually a pretty decent video game movie but everything about this one was just so lame. why was the green screen work so bad? why did the CGI look so bad? I mean, the budget was 30 million. District 9 has a 30 million dollar budget with 2009 money. How could that movie look so good but this movie look so awful?
I don't know either, but it was an epic fail, and didn't deserve to be, and should not have been. The 1st one wasn't bad, but they literally destroyed a movie franchise in an hour and a half.
30 million for CGI in the 90s was not much, CGI has came down in price alot over the years, plus District 9 was developed on the side over a years time when they were working on the scrapped HALO film, as you can see many aspects of the film were inspired by what the battle sceens would of looked like in HALO,
Mortal Kombat 2, was made as quick as possible after #1 was a smash hit, with most of the cast gone since, NewLine didn't have the forsight to lock the cast into multi-film contracts
1) Not having Linden Ashby, Christopher Lambert, Bridget Wilson hurt a ton and screws up any feeling of continuity. 2) Killing off Cage right away was incredibly stupid, although that's probably why Ashby didn't want to do it 3) Way too many characters in a bland presentation instead of having a few select characters with some actual character development; in other words, there should have been more people like Kabal and Stryker who were only mentioned in conversation rather than shown. 4) worst CGI ever, period 5) the overall script/story just was not any good, and none of the other 4 points being corrected would have saved the film when there is still a crappy script to deal with. James Ramar is a good actor, but he just had crap to work with in this film 6) Too bad YOU, will die! Nuf said 7) Scorpion was killed, and then comes back for 2 minutes, and is never seen again? 8) Sub Zero comes back for 2 minutes, and is never seen again?
