Liu Kang's third and final test
According to the script:
After Shao Kahn blasts Rayden and Liu runs to aid him, Rayden says that Liu passed the final test. Wich was the courage to take a step forward and face Kahn. This scene wasn't in the film, as many more other key-scenes.
