Don't quite understand

Okay so I've watched this movie probably more then a dozen times, and never been able to figure out why when ashitaka and San bring the Forest spirits head out and how when the goo drips on them it causes ashitaka's curse mark to spread, and San to get the curse mark, and spread all over her body as well. I also have one more question, when Lord Akoto is turning into a demon, San touches it, does anyone know why she doesn't get the curse like
ashitaka?

The curse is symbolic of hatred empowering the inner demons we all struggle with, turning us into monsters (figuratively speaking) San wasn't infected because she 'loved' Lord Akoto and wanted to save him. Ashitaka was infected because he 'hated' the boar at the beginning and was trying to kill it.
