Mira Sorvino in the protective suit

Why was Mira in the protective suit at the start of the movie, but not later when things had gotten a lot more dangerous. We should of seen her in the movie wearing that half of the time, around the cochroaches at the start and around the main cochroach man. It would have given the movie a much scarier feel as we would have heard all of her panicking breaths when danger was around, and the audience would have felt more for her as she struggled in her restrictive suit. It looked as though inside her bulky outer suit she had another more form fitting suit, complete with oxygen tank and full faced gasmask. Has anybody worn one of these, if so what are they like to wear, can you talk with the gasmask, do they get hot, can you see well and is your breathing all you can hear. Thanks in advance.

She was only wearing it in the beginning to protect herself from the exceptionally unsanitary conditions of the roach-infested sewers and tunnels. Roaches would be carrying more diseases than the fictional illness from the movie. Remember that she was later captured by the insects and brought into the hive's larder, and so she wasn't wearing a suit at the time because she ostensibly did not think to herself "While I'm waiting for my husband on the subway platform, maybe I should don a HazMat suit just in case I am kidnapped by giant insects and taken to an unsanitary environment." Until this happened, she had no clue that the Judas had grown to their present size or established an independent colony underground.

Always remember to wear a helmet when caving, and carry three light sources

I suppose seeing as she was simply waiting for her husband on a train platform before she was abducted by the Mimic it is only logical to conclude that she didn't wear the suit twenty four hours a day, or at the very least just not on public transport.

Opinions are just onions with pi in them.
