Yes, I bought it several years ago on VHS.
It's everything the movie should have been and, sadly, absolutely wasn't.
As MIDNIGHT IN SAVANNAH was made at the same time the Eastwood movie, you almost pine for Clint to have done his film cinéma vérité style. Imagine some of the real person interviews -- the townspeople, the Married Womens' Card Club members, etc. --- that were in the documentary sprinkled here and there to give the big screen picture some authenticity, with the actors' scenes mixed in.
It could have been soooo much better, Clint's movie. But, alas, it was a mess and didn't work at all.
Perhaps the movie had a bad karma, too. It was much too sympathetic with Jim Williams' version of events.
In fact, Jim Williams gave it away himself when he told some people that Danny ("Billy" in the movie) came into the room that evening, said, "I'm leaving this house tomorrow, but you're leaving this house tonight!" and then attempted to shoot Jim.
Somebody broke up with somebody that night.
If Jim had told Danny to move out, Jim likely wouldn't have then shot him if Danny was unarmed (which the D.A. and the coroner believed to be the case) even if Danny got angry. But if an unarmed Danny had angrily expressed his intention to leave Jim, Jim might very well have shot him anyway.
