I just listened to a Nerdist podcast interview with Patrick Stewart and he said that he thought it was a good script and was going to be the next Home Alone. He seemed to have more regrets about it being a flop than actually making it. In fact, he took so much ownership of the movie that I started to think he was involved with the production side.
shareMy guess is that he lost a bet with Wil Wheaton. As a result, he was forced to make an exact remake of Toy Soldiers (1991).
(OK, not an exact remake, but pretty close.)
