Why Jurassic Park III is my favorite film in the JP series.
If you step back and look at it JP3 is basically a slasher movie, except instead of a masked killer there are dinosaurs spilling people's blood. Although many people hated JP3, I'm here to outline some of the reasons that it is my favorite film in the serious.
The set-pieces: This movie had some great set pieces. Most people don't know that a lot of that jungle wasn't a real jungle, it was a set that they build on a soundstage. There's also very distinct sequences that are not only really cool, but diverse. You got the airplane scene, the abandoned InGen lab, the pterosaur cage, and the river. All of these made for great grounds for dinosaur action without going too over-the-top.
The Spinosaurus: I love theropods and while many people were butthurt about the T-Rex getting killed, I enjoyed the battle scene and thought it was a great way to introduce the new "king of the jungle" for this film. The Spino was terrifying and the mix of CGI and animatronic made it even better.
The effects: The first three JP films all have great practical effects, but the raptors in JP3 looked especially good. Something that took me "out of the moment" in Jurassic World, was the blatant overuse of CGI.
The story: It's a self-contained story on an abandoned island with only a few people, made it feel even more claustrophobic and horror-like...and I'm a sucker for horror!
