Eddie was the only genuinely sympathetic character

All the others were either greedy Ingen a-holes, or narcissistic Greenpeace types who didn't care about the harm they were placing other human-beings in.

I do quite like Ian Malcolm, although his coolness and swagger makes up for some of his more selfish and aloof characteristics. But Eddie was the only decent guy; he cared about the dinosaurs and what Ingen was doing to them, but not to such a extent that he'd recklessly endanger people, as Sarah and Nick did.

It's a shame that the nicest guy in the film (maybe the nicest guy in the entire franchise) ended up with one of the nastiest deaths.  It's mostly this reason that I can never fully love this film the way I do the other three Jurassic Park movies. By all means, kill off good guys, to show how high the stakes are, but not in such a mean-spirited and prolonged manner.

oh, c'mon. one thing that is so great and refreshing about this movie is Malcolm, and the amount of common sense he shows, especially in comparison to the other characters. Eddie is a nice guy, but he was also as naive as the other people.

Eddie's 'naivety' isn't what got him killed, unless you're saying he was 'naïve' to risk his life to save Ian, Sarah and Nick. In which case, what does that make Ian, Sarah and Nick, seeing as it was their collective stupidity that compelled Eddie to do anything?

It never occured to me that he is naive until now, and when you think about it he really is naive. What was he thinking risking his life to save 3 people when 2 of those would probably rather let him die than hurt a dino to save him.

Malcolm was a sympathetic character. He cared for Sarah and went to the island to rescue her.

He also cared about his daughter.

Just, in general, his dire warnings were meant to protect people.

He even broke the NDA’s and flushed his career down the toilet to get the truth of what happened in Jurassic Park (especially the deaths of three people) out to the public.

And he was the only one brave enough to do it. Everyone just took the money and shut up.
