Wow, I can't believe that was Mischa Barton!

I must have watched this film like 5 years ago... the complete plot is a bit vague to me now, but one thing i could not forget was the acting. Sam Rockwell was amazing, but the relatively unknown young actress back then who delivered a superb performance turned out to be the now famous Mischa Barton from the OC. Great job... she usually point out in interviews that she is quite mature for her age, thinking back it really shows, it was a relatively difficult role for someone so young. So talented even at the age of ten. Lovely movie by the way even though slightly sad.

Lawn Dogs was Mischa's best film by far. Things started going downhill after The 6th Sense, and by the time we suffered through Pulse she had lost a lot of my respect. Her most recent work is dreck, but Lawn Dogs remains my #1 favorite film of all time, due in no small part to the efforts of Ms Barton.

mmmmm i agree that this is one of Mischas best movies, and she does a really good job in it, its a tie for me as im a big fan of Lost and Delirious, but id probly vote this movie over it. I defiently second whoever said Pulse is crap, pfft its slow and boring. I did like Pups though.

I agree that this movie is one of her best although I liked some of her post 6th sense work.

A brilliant & compelling film, Sam Rockwell was excellent in this, didnt know who he was till saw him in this indie movie & look where he is now! I thought Mischa Barton was also impressive in this and when i saw the O.C for first time i was thnking who is 'Marissa' ive seen her face before. Then thought she looked like Devon in lawn Dogs and was right, her face hasn't changed that much.

I saw the trailer only, but from what i saw in the trailer, I was very surprised that that was mischa barton!! I know her from the OC, and she is not very good there, so i thought that she isn't a good actress, but turns out she is!! I guess the role of marissa cooper on The OC is not really for her.
BTW In this movie, was that her real voice when she was small?? or does she just make it that way because she plays that kind of a character?

About her face changing much, i disagree with that. maybe with her style and makeup, shes changed personalities. her old movies, like lawn dogs and lost and delirious, she has those (puppy) eyes that seem so sad and understanding, she seemed like just a magical little girl. Now she plays some school girl slut and yeah she looks hot, but not as special (e.g. the OC, OH in Ohio)

reply

i think it's sad. she really was magical in Lawn Dogs, and a really amazing actor, and then in the OC she had this whiny character that annoyed the heck out of me. the character had no meat, lol, literally and figuratively. Mischa is such a good actor she should do more movies that are special and challenging and just frickin amazing like Lawn Dogs.

the o.c.... someone had to mention it...

I noticed she was the sick dead kid from sixth sense but i am blissfully unaware of the OC, just done an image search on here and my word, she has blossomed into a stunning woman!

I know what you mean, I couldn't believe it either when it hit me. I first saw Lawn Dogs probably a couple of years before the OC, never made the connection after seeing the tv show, then saw Lawn Dogs again this month, and bam ! Recognized her instantly.

Here she's a whole world away from the irritating and watered-down, weak personality she portrays in the Ostinkin'C.

I've read a couple of interviews with her and when the talk turns to her early work she never mentions this film in any of them.

I would suggest that she thinks that her Lawn Dogs character and the subject matter doesn't now fit with the all-american, glamorous, valley girl image she and her 'people' want her to be.

Real shame - I always hoped that the actress in this wonderful film would go on to become a fantatsic adult actress in alternative films.

reply

I disagree - Mischa has mentioned Lawn Dogs in one or two interviews I've read and she doesn't seem at all ashamed of the fact that she's done some arthouse films in the past. I also think that her part in Lawn Dogs would definitely help her if she wanted to get cast in some indie film roles alongside mainstream stuff, which lots of young Hollywood actors seem to want these days. So don't worry, I'm almost positive she'll appear in some alternative films at some point!

reply

She actually mentions Lawn Dogs and some of her other films. If she even talks smack about anything it's her OC persona, something she wants to stay away from as much as possible.

reply

Yeah, I agree, she will do more indies and is. After leaving the OC she's been lined up for loads of films and most or at least some are indie like, Don't Fade Away and Malice in Sunderland (I think) I think she makes good choices as to what roles to play and hopefully won't disappoint in these upcoming flicks.

when was mischa in pulse?!

reply

The film was released in 2003. She was around 16 during production.

I remember seeing this movie at least 5 years ago and Mischa was great. Before i knew that was her, the little girls acting in this movie was what stuck with me most. But what has she become now, or what the industry has turned her into.
