Comb + Towel in the Ending
Devon tells Trent "They're gonna come after you, when they get close, throw down this towel, if they're still gaining on you, throw down this comb."
Later on, Trent actually throws down the towel and the comb, and the river rises and the forest springs up. I take that to mean the police are actually chasing him and closing in on him and the magical waters and tress are just Trent and Devon's imagination. But then I don't see how Trent can actually get into any legal trouble unless there is some elaborate frame job. Seems like the people with the most to lose would be Devon's dad and the security guard if the police were involved (Devon's dad for not sufficiently securing the firearm, the security guard for setting up the whole final showdown in the first place).
Also, Devon's line "home is in my hands." Is that supposed to be a cliche line along the lines of "home is wherever you want it to be" or "home is where the heart is"? Or do you suppose that Trent will find home when the two kindred spirits meet again in the future.
