Lawn Dogs is an Absolutely wonderful movie.

There are many messages on this board saying many things. The main message I have is this movie is simply wonderful. Misha Barton is allow to play a normal child. Unlike the equally talented Brooke Shields she is not forced into the perverse hollywood lolita mode. Her interactions with the lawn dog are innocent and trusting both indicative of a 10 year old. Her quest for postive attention and approval from an adult is truly authentic. Another great thing about Mischa Barton's performance is that her character lives in a world that's polar opposite to her own. Her character is a free wheeling child of the sixties. A true free spirit open and interested in everything life has to offer. This movie is the main reason that Mischa Barton has had so many parts in so many movies. If you like this movie you may also enjoy another great movie "Digging to China" starring Evan Rachel Wood another excellent perfomance that has launched a career.

I genuinely don't know how you can say this is a wonderful movie. Granted the performances are good but I don't understand the central message or point of it. It just seems full of mixed ideas which are incoherently put together. I came away from it just scratching my head and wondering what the hell is this director trying to say. Can anyone clarify?

All we can do is smile back

how bout this - they try to control everything - they live in a gated community with security to keep the bad people out - according to these people if you're not rich you are bad - if you are rich and you have stuff you must be good cos it shows you've worked hard (not lied or cheated or stepped on others or been born to it)- yet the bad people are inside the wall not on the outside - the dad is just as quick to forgive sean for groping his daughter as he is to condemn trent

they want to control her friends and the way they are perceived in the community - we must look right and show our best make-over life

yet trent is the one whose family has love and affection and he is the boy who sends money back to his parents and befriends a 'lost' girl

maybe it also says something about americas gun laws - who are they protecting americans from? the bad people? saddam and osama on the otherside of the gate? or are americans all living in a big gated community already? more americans kill americans than terrorists do

i dont know - good movie but cos it makes you think about stuff

Why do so many watch movies expecting to find a message, or what a Director was trying to say, or do, or what point is expected? Can't a movie just rake the viewer through a few days in the lives of a few people without it being analyzed to death or mined for hidden or underlaying meanings? Just kick back and enjoy it.

I remember seeing this show and enoyed how seeing just how we do view some social-climbers, and what we frown upon, and how we were when we were young - rebelious, curious, confused, eager, frightened, rambuncous, and sponging up everything around us too often not udnertanding most of it.

It was just a movie - but a darned good one and a entertaining hour and half.

This movie is wonderful for me because it makes me feel different and think clearer. After I've watched it I don't feel blue and depressed, though the movie is giving you a lots to think about, but I feel open. That's my opinion.

I agree. I feel that it is very successful and works brilliantly in developing the main relationship between Devon and Trent. When watching the film, I perceive similarities between this film and Tim Burton's masterpiece, Edward Scissorhands, such as the bittersweet ending which defies the usual sickly-sweet Hollywood ending and leaves the two main characters separated forever just as their friendship reaches its peak, as well as the sense of childlike innocence and wonder throughout the film. I found it a heartwarming and engaging film, but was a bit thrown by the rather strange ending, with the growing forest and flooding river. I assume that it is in Devon's imagination or is symbolic, but it hardly matters. Any film which brings Edward Scissorhands to mind is good in my book.

Absolutely agree. This is a phenomenal film; simple, parable and a incisive view of America from a foreign director in his first American film. Just glorious acting, fantastic score and avoids predictability.

Wonderful, heartwarming movie. There were some moments where I yelled at the screen I was so angry, and there were moments that were so sad that I got just a little teary-eyed. Great acting, great movie.
