Was it just me or was there some "wink-nod" moments between Kull and the character played by Harvey Fierstein? The one that springs to mind is when Harvey's character says something along the lines of, "Oh, Kull...you know I hate the smell of fish." Maybe it was just me. Seemed like one of the script's few attempts at wit. Not that it was successful or anything. Thoughts?
I came onto this board hoping to open up a dialouge on something I picked up on this otherwise forgotten (and forgettable) film, just to see if I was alone in it. I am a big fan of Robert E. Howard, and was just curious on this seeming in-joke featuring Harvey Fierstein. Then you come along, dashing any hopes I had of engaging in a reasonably intelligent conversation. It pains me to see what has become of IMDB. Your tagline seems to indicate an open mind. How painfully misleading. What I can gather from your two postings here alone is that you do not posess the desire or the capability to open up a dialouge. Despite your "liberal" proffessions, your first post smacks of homophobia. That figures. A pseudo-fairweather liberal making a hypocritical statement. That just shows that you are not firmly rooted in any type of belief, liberal or conservative. How sad, to march along in a movement, not emotionally anchored in any of it's agendas, and probably not knowledgeable in them at all. And then your second post. A variation on the time honored "I know you are but what am I" followed by a slight on conservatives. Did you even think about it before you clicked on 'Reply', or do you make a habit of talking out of your bum? It's liberals like you that give left wingers a bad name. My advice : crack open a Howard story before you criticize. Or just think before you speak. Hell, crack open any book. Get away from your monitor, crack open a book, and learn to think for yourself. I realize what a frighteningly new proposition this is for you, but it will give your arguments (if you have any, aside from time wasting, embarassing insult-hashing) more merit, and perhaps you will learn more about what you really think you stand for, if you stand for anything at all.
Just say NO to mindless lock stepping zombies (Liberal and conservative)
It saddens me to think that you actually took the time to type that out, though not so much as it troubles me that I actually took the time to read it. Seriously, why did you even bother?
Yes, didn't you love these lines? And when JUBA said, "since you left, things haven't been the same around here". Personally, I loved this movie. I've seen it now several times and it kind of gets better. I believe it's the "wit"!
It seems to me that this film was a loving send up of the source material along the lines of the 60's "Batman" TV series, or the great 1980 "Flash Gordon" film. Being a huge Robert E. Howard fan, I at first despised this film but have since come to appreciate it's sardonic, winking-at-the- camera humour. Liberalism is a mental disorder.
