The ending

Caught the tail end of the movie and was wondering about two items. (spoilers, obviously!)

Would it have looked strange to security of an armed, uniformed cop (Mr. Jackal in disguise) sitting down on a park bench all by himself playing around with a laptop? Don't cops do their crowd control always standing or walking, not sitting down taking a load off checking out the internet? Definite red flag there.

Near the very end, Gere is confronted with a hostage situation when Willis steps out with the teen wrapped around his arm. The part I don't get is Willis presents such a HUGE target from a short distance. His shoulders and head are exposed (the teen is stooping low) and Gere already has his gun up, aimed and ready to fire. Just pull the trigger! If Willis had the teen up closer to his head, I could understand the difficultly of taking a shot, but it sure looks like a green light to me.

Am I missing something here other than "it's just a movie?"

You don't remember the "bench" scene well : his "laptop" is in...disguise as well.

And for your second question...well, yes, it was just (another) movie...
