If you didn't like this movie...

You probably were not paying enough attention to the story. I just read through pages and pages of people complaining about "plot holes" and it's clear the details shown in the movie were missed by them. A shame, because it's a good movie even though a bit "romanticized".

Seems some people expect a documentary when they watch a fictional story... even documentaries get some details wrong.

Anyway, the point is if you're going to complain and call it a terrible movie, at least know what you're talking about.

I didn't like it because remakes are usually not as good as the original and that is the case with this movie. Watch 'The Day Of The Jackal' and enjoy that one.

It's not "romanticized", it's cheesy, sentimentalist, nonsensical rubbish that never sustains any real suspense - or makes any of the characters, or any of the stuff going on, believable. The 1973 classic picture dumbed down to a tee; guess that's what the 1997 audiences deserved, huh?

I completely agree this was one of the cheesiest action movies I have ever watched. The entire scene with Declin getting there just in time to watch Valentina die was hilarious. There are like 100 cops and medical personnel at the scene and they just have her laid up on the couch to let her die and give her dramatic last speech with no effort to save her (The best part is when the paramedics then rush her dead body outside with a sheet over it as if now is the time for some hustle). The entire dynamic between her and Declin was so contrived it was sickening.

Isabella showing up at the end made absolutely no sense at all either. Declin was working with the cops and they had already given him a gun. Why not give him a radio to communicate as well instead of having to give a cell phone call to his ex to come save the day...why not the 600 cops?

This movie should have been decent with the cast they had but the story was butchered so badly it is almost as if they were trying to spoof sappy action "thrillers"...when you look at it in that sense it is almost watchable.

Because, even in real life, a gunshot wound to the liver is usually fatal especially if not attended to immediately(literally within minutes of the wound). Otherwise, you would basically bleed out and there's NOTHING an EMT or doctor could do aside from making you comfortable with pain medication.

Also, the reason why Declan called Isabella is because she was just as pissed at the Jackal as Declan for killing their baby. AND, as was said in the movie, she was Basque and that "They say Basques live by the vendetta. If they hate someone, it's to the death. It's the same way when they love.". In other words, it was painfully obvious that Declan still loved her enough to want to give her the chance to get her revenge on the Jackal for their dead baby.

Wait! I see...the OP was right. lol
