Why did Jonas pick up the revolver immediately and put it inside his pocket?
Also, when they discovered the secret passage, why didnt he order all of the police officers to follow him?

Because if they found the revolver, the police would have immediately been able to differentiate the bullet that killed his partner from the ammo in the revolver. That's why he had to shoot the dog and replace the bullet that was in evidence storage.
