Is this film only against males?

This is one the most cruel film I ever watched, and at the end we understand that Chad did what he did only for cruelty and not even for revenge against women.

But, since I don't know anything about the story behind this film, I just wondered if LaBute made this film to talk about the cruelty of males or males and females in general.
What do you think or know?

I'll be wrong, but a man usually behaves as a "bastard" when he wants just to go to bed with a woman and then leaves her or even for revenge, and only a sick person can think of such a plane to hurt a woman.
It's more than misoginy, it's pure cruelty, hate against humanity.

Moreover, I think a woman can behave just the same way as well, and there are a lot of stories in which for example a girl seduces an ugly guy and then humiliates him.

Neil Labute was once asked whether Chad could have been a woman. In response, he wrote the play (and movie, which is hopelessly stagebound) "The Shape of Things". Check it out.
