Did Chad sabotage howards work to get him demoted or did he think by getting Howard in the game that he would lose it emotionally and get sloppy with his work because he was a whimpy guy on the rebound?
shareI definitely think Chad was working the whole time to undermine Howard and get his job. This, like the game, works to illustrate Chad's utterly sociopathic personality.

Duh! Of course he was screwing with him the whole time, on every level. So many times, faxes that Chad sent "weren't found" or the photocopies that Howard made that he made sure were good ended up "being too light". Come on. He took every opportunity to screw over Howard.
I wouldn't be surprised if he got some girl to call Howard's mom and pretend to be Howard's ex-fiancee, which would explain why she never called Howard himself.
It is up for interpretation. Howard is a terrible leader and he does delegate all the work to Chad, such as the New York trip because he is caught up with Christine. So the part about the light copies could be true because Chad wasn't planning on the NY trip and Howard was a basketcase.

Chad screwed him in every way possible. I don't even think that Chad considered Howard as his friend. He used him to move up the ladder and you can tell at the end of the movie that it's been a while since they talked. Chad strung him along and let Howard believe they were friends and then pulled the plug on it. Chad got promoted and Howard was demoted.
