A few years back I purchased a vhs copy while in the Czech Republic. It was titled Gambler, instead of Hard Eight. I bought it for one reason. On the back cover there's a still showing the hostage standing outside bandaged up, pointing a gun...!??! It's the 101 min version, but in PAL format that won't play on my vcr.

For years I've wondered where they got this image. Can't even find this scene in the deleted screenplay scenes.

Anyone know what this is all about?

There was an alternate ending where the hostage catches up to Sydney at the diner from the beginning of the film and shoots him. The only question now, is how in the hell a European VHS distributor got that still, and why they thought it was a good idea to use it on the box.

It's stated in the trivia section that that was in the original script, but it was unknown if it was ever shot. Sounds like it was!
