Just not a good movie.

Prove me wrong.

reply

Well it has been quite a while since I've seen
this movie but I do remember it pretty well
and i found it entertaining. To each his own.
Prove you wrong? How do you prove an opinion
wrong?

I will suck on my thumb and watch the oscars. Bet I won't see PT Anderson there.

By that logic any film that doesn't win an Oscar is 'just not a good movie'.

Besides, the Oscars is a pretty bad way to judge films.

Too bad he's nominated for best director...:)

jholste, Did you mean to put a comma after "Too bad,?" Because, if you didn't, it sounds as if you are saying it is really too bad that Anderson got nominated. As far as receiving an Oscar being a mark of quality, I would quote Clint Eastwood in one of his best roles, "Deserve ain't got nothin' to do with it." While Anderson directed the best American film of the past year, he will most likely lose out to the Coen Brothers, because they have paid more dues in the eyes of the Oscar voters. It's great that the Coens are getting some overdue recognition. But the main value of receiving an Oscar, Independent Spirit Award, Golden Globe, or even a nomination for one of those awards is that maybe a few more people will want to see your film.

Or could it be that he/she was just using sarcasm???

you ain't leadin' but two things right now: Jack and sh*t... and Jack just left town.

That's the joy of these boards. It's been more than three years since the post I'm replying to, and for all I know you've tried to repent for your poor taste in films. Or, you may show up tomorrow and re-affirm your allegiance to the thread's title.

Neither scenario will change the fact that Hard Eight is an exceptional little movie.

Remember the days when you didn't have to actively seek out obscure message boards on IMDb to engage in stimulating discussion? And even then, there's bound to be at least one person pissing in the pool.

It was the dude's first film, and you can see a lot of good stuff in it, and stuff that he'd later use and refine in later films... All things considered, i think it was pretty good... Sure, i'd be dissapointed if he came out with this film last year, but he didn't... its almost 20 years old. Dude was like 24 when he made it.
