Apparently PTA is still fuming about it. But I'm not a huge fan of the title Sydney. I don't think it would have added to or changed the film. No secret meaning. It was just a character's name. Anyone agree/disagree?
shareIf the guy who conceived the story and wrote the screenplay wanted to title it Sydney, it should have been titled Sydney by default.
If studio execs holding the purse strings wanted to re-title it something else so it would appeal to people who give a fuck about things sounding "cool" or "bad ass" or whatever, it's their money and their production and they had the right to name it Hard Eight, or Hard Cocks, or Fuck You Pay Me or whatever the hell else they thought was going to put the most asses in theater seats in 1997.
Thanks to the studio changing the name, we got the opening shot in his next film showing " Boogie Nights" on theater marquee!
