Good god, it made me want to go and study something (anything) so as not to be as stupid and nihilistic as these folks. This town really did have the feel of a post-apocalyptic world.

Heres a news flash. Gummo is a fictional film directed by a person who was an outcast in a lower-income white town and hated the people there and made the film as his revenge on them. Gummo is no more an accurate depiction of lower-class white people than the Nazi propaganda film Jud Suss was an accurate depiction of Jewish people.

I wouldn't be so hard on the director. It's satire and hyperbole. It's not realism.
