I wish my life was Gummo

Completely convoluted by how shallow it is, where life is one big taboo after the other and nobody cares. It moves me, really. There is a beauty to the menial depravity, and I'd sum it up in the scene where bunny boy is making out with two girls in the pool as it rains. Now there's my idea of euphoria, and it's why I wish I was in Gummo-Land.

"What if the name of the hurricane... was Hurricane Ditka?"

reply

The making out in the pool scene is not about euphoria.

By having Chloe Sevigny make out with the innocent, pink, bunny boy Korine was foreshadowing her infamous un-simulated "making out" of a dirty, brown bunny.

The rain represents the contempt Hollywood would now have for her and the pool is her career; a sinking ship that is ultimately gonna drown.

Korine is truly a genius.

reply

Genius? More like a prophet if that's true. Shame it isn't

Or it is a very successful troll message.

What you're feeling is called Nihilism, wiki it. I worship it as a religion.

I grinned when I first read the heading. Seriously though...You do realise that Tummler was contemplating suicide right?

Maybe it symbolises a collective death wish that Xenia's residents share when Solomon's mother points a gun at his head.

reply

Yeah, I know it's a depressing world they live in, and even though it seems so outrageous at times, everyone in it just strikes me as more real than most people. Even more than the people I know in real life. They're completely comfortable with being themselves in it, and have no restraints on how they want to live their life.

It's sort of that common loss of, well... lots of things, that really makes them all seem like a unique group of people that you can sympathize with as a whole.

If your life was Gummo then it wouldn't be one big taboo after the other, any more than your current life is one big taboo after the other because Amish people or Islamic fundamentalists think so.
