The movie was made in 1997 and takes place in the future of that time period, but is there ever any indication how many years in the future Gattaca takes place? Could we be near the timeline in real life?

The reason being is that contemporary mainstream politics in the West promote dysgenic policies, the opposite of the eugenic policies championed in Gattaca.
No Western politician with any kind of power and authority has the courage to come out publicly and endorse the kind of socioeconomic and sociopolitical system that exists in the world of Gattaca.
Idk if there’s even a covert off the books attempt, that’s how scared they are of a better future.
