Why does this only have 7.8?

Because people are morons. This movie is not very well known, it is too intelligent drama for audiences.

I feel like a lot of big science fiction fans will give it 9 or 10 ratings but people who don't love the genre will give it a 6 or 7.
I just saw it for the first time and I loved it. 9/10!

I know movies impress different people in different ways. I've watched so many movies, and this one, for me, is the one I go back to and think, "Now THAT was a great movie!"

Blockbusters, critically acclaimed, and some of my favorite movies all pale in comparison to this one when I think of a movie that captures the determination that the human spirit can have.

Plus it doesn't have one of those completely random endings that some directors trying to "Make their mark" have.

It was in the top 250 years ago either in 97 or 98
