The movie's biggest problem: the ending is too easy to predict.

I recently rewatched the movie... OMG, it's worse than I remember. I remember I watched the movie with my sister when we were 15~16, we kind of bored and discussed the ending must be "Oh, it's just a game." And then the movie revealed: it's just a game.

It's freaking boring because the ending is so obvious, I bet 99% saw that coming. When you know it's just a game, you won't worry about the protagonist.

Slightly disagree (I like it marginally more than you do) because it at least plays fair with the audience; it either is or isn't a game, no in between. I think you give yourself way too much credit for "predicting" this movie's obvious direction when it was always going to be one out of two options. You won the coin toss so yay?

The problem with the movie is that it had a huge portion of the plot, making it look like it wasn't a game. When you know it must be a game, you won't worry about the danger the protagonist faces, which makes it boring.
