is this a modern day...

classic?

reply

Yes.

Do you think Dougeless's character lives or actually dieds at the end? My feeling is the latter.

reply

I think he was alive.

reply

Hmmm... I think would I'm going to rewatch the film now in the mindset that he lives (not in a dead-state), so as to hopefully understand the perspective.

reply

I actually never even thought about that. Was that seedling of ambiguity intended by the production?

reply

It's like how many films have produced an "ambiguous" ending where everything comes together, with happy smiles, etc..., i.g.., "Brazil", "Total Recall", "eXistenZ", "Repo Man", "The Thirteenth Floor", etc.., [far more I should name, but I'm a bit tippsy].

I'm pretty sure the writers/production made the ending very much ambiguous (before they revealed that the "happy" ending wasn't really so happy). But in regards to "The Game", it feels like an "initiation", given Douglas lives.

It's a modern day version of "A Christmas Carol". Sean Penn is the various Ghosts.

Armin Mueller-Stahl is the Bob Cratchit character.
