Why was this version shown on u.k tv ?.

It was on tv here last night, and i'm assuming it was the version that was shown in america that was shown last night, as in one scene, in the original version, Gerald says " she's out on the high street now with her barkley card, spending ", but in this version, it said mastercard instead. In another scene , horse said " no one said anything to me about the full monty ", and then someone else says " stark naked ? " after he said that, and it doesnt say that after horse's line in the original. They also changed an english swear word, beginning with t, i wont write it, lol, to " git " instead, that Gary says. There were a couple other words they changed aswell.

I cant understand why this version was shown, as i live in the u.k, so it's not like we wouldnt understand the words and sentences from the original .

I have the film on video aswell and all the original lines and words are there.

i was watching it on E4 last night and i spotted the exact same dubovers, i'm willing to bet they dubbed over certain bits for the American version of the film so they could understand what is being said, to make it more 'americanised' for the audience.

why the hell was it shown on UK TV though? i'll never know. Stupid E4 people. they should show the proper version

I noticed that and it really annoyed me! The part where they are at the funeral
and they notice the two guys holding hands and Dave says "I never hold hands with ruddy lasses, me" in the original but in last night's version he said "I never hold hands with LADIES, me"
Why? I can understand why they didn't use the word 'ruddy' but assuming that people across the Atlantic don't understand the word 'lasses'
is surely insulting to them!!

some expressions in UK are so different from the US.
Like what is Git, and Kits?

For instance saying "any road," instead of "any way" like we do in US.

I am going to do it "any way." Or "I am going to do it "any road."

No one says "any road" in US. And the film is so much more enjoyable when you can SEE what they have just said with captioning. I was shocked.

I missed so much dialogue when i saw it at the theatre.

A 'git' is used as a friendly insult, eg. 'Oh, you lucky git!'
Or it can be used by people who don't curse as it's considered inoffensive.

'Kit' means clothing, so when Gaz says, 'right everyone, kits off' he means
get your clothes off.

As for 'any road', this is an expression used generally in the North of England which is of course where Sheffield is.

I agree it can be irritating when you can't follow the dialogue but at least in the US you get captions, we aren't so lucky in the UK because it's assumed that we are familiar with US expressions and that's not always the case.

what i mean is,why was that version shown on uk tv when people in the u.k understand what everything from the original version means ?.It seems stupid.

It's on tv again tonight at 9.00pm here,so i'll see if the same version is on again.I'm from the north of england aswell,which is also where this film is set,and of course,i understand all the phrases especially.

I agree with the above poster aswell in that we dont always understand american expressions either and that we should have captions on american films for some of the phrases they use.
