Slang

Sorry if this has been asked before (I've trawled through the boards and can't seem to find anything :-)).

So I'm Northern English and had no problems understanding this film, but I've read stuff about people (mostly Americans) not understanding the slang. I was just wondering out of curiosity what phrases people didn't get (as obviously it all makes perfect sense to me :-P)?

All of 'em. I live in Israel and totally depend on the Hebrew subtitles to get through any film nowadays, but particularly if the cast is Irish, Scottish, or English. I'm a Yank and loved this movie nevertheless.

The reissue that I just bought has a feature with "English to English" explaining the phrases in American English.

Be careful who you hate. They could be someone you love.

I'm from the US and I had no problem understanding it. I mean, it is in context isn't it? Easy to decipher that way. Isn't like some obscure Cockney rhyming cant. Which still makes me shake my head in puzzlement. That is not a slam on Cockney's though, ok? Just saying.....
