Scene i've never understood.

Full Monty is one of my favourite movies with me being a Yorkshire boy myself. But, anyway, i've never understood the scene where Lomper is trying to top himself in that car, Dave ''helps'' him out and then walks back to Gaz. He then immediatley darts off back to the car and throws Lomper back in. Explanation?

At first Dave simply thinks that the guys (Lomper) car has broken down, and he does something to fix it. When he walks up to Gaz, Gaz has a ciggerette in his hand and the smoke makes Dave realise that Lomper was in fact trying to commit suicide. Once Dave runs back over to the car and pulls Lomper out, he calls Dave a bastard (even though he has in fact saved his life) so he shoves him back into the car that is now full of fumes, but obviously he lets him out although the viewers dont see that. I apologise if this dont make much sense, it is early in the morning =D

A fantastic, funny film by the way.

So he threw him back in because he called him a bastard?

Yes, but of course he had no intention of actually locking him in there, just teaching him a bit of a lesson I guess.

Another scene I didn't understand is how come after the funeral scene when they establish that Guy is together with Lomper they show him running past some girls and flirting with them as they show him attention. Surely it contradicts itself.

"My life is a show, a commercial for people to see how normal I am,when I am really anything but."

I might be wrong, but it might have something to do with "not coming out of a closet". I think in Sheffield it wastn`t that "ok to be gay" back then.

I always thought that Guy was just enjoying the attention, not because they're female but because it's a bit of jokey fun... also, make them smile and they might buy tickets and come along... I could be wrong though

^^ this.

I think the reason they show the girls flirting as he runs by is they know he is going to strip down to "the full monty", as most of the guys get remarks made to them as the whole town starts to know.

I didn't get the scene with Horse in the phone booth.

many of us males are insecure about the size of our "package." So he had gone to an adult bookstore to buy a pen is pump. Of course they don't really work, but I guess they have all these silly-looking parts. So he's calling to complain that it didn't work but he really wanted it to. He thinks he needs it and it isn't helping. Therein lies the humor.

reply

to be fair, he just turns and smiles at them, its hardly flirting.

reply

yes. i've always seen that as a bit of a joke on Dave's part, and always laughed about it - like, "call me a bastard, will ya? well, here ya go then!" especially when taken in context with the next scene, where Dave is clearly not upset about having been called a bastard and, in fact, is establishing a friendship with Lomper.

What was the deal with the gnomes?

I didn't quite get that

the whole film i've never understood.

Dave thinks that Lomper is having trouble starting his car, and he helps him fix the problem. Only after he walks away does he realize that Lomper was intending to "off" himself, so he runs back to save him.

Lomper calls him a bastard, so Dave throws him back into the car.
