be such a positive and uplifting experience. No matter how many times I watch this movie, I always thoroughly enjoy it and I am always left smiling at the end.

Totally agree. No fun is made of any of the characters, and they triumph! Very "if you need some cheering up" movie, which, thankfully for me, is on right now. Favorite scene: they're in line - don't know where? Unemployment office? - "Hot Stuff" comes over the speakers, and they can't stop the moves!
i have no idea how many people i've recommended this movie to, and i've gotten the strangest looks.. "you HAVE to watch this movie!" "what's it about?" "this group of men who become strippers -" (cue the strange looks) "- never mind what it's about, just watch it!" without fail, every single person i've shown it to has loved it. what a fantastic movie. funny, sweet, sad, happy, and yes, very uplifting. :)
It's about men trying to reinstate their dignity, ironically by stripping off.
These are men who worked in an industry that was supposed to give them a job for life and gave the city it's wealth. When the industry went they were on the scrapheap prematurely.
Planet-38 How Can a Movie About Men Stripping be such a positive and uplifting experience
I totally agree with you that the movie gives a very uplifting experience. Sometimes I think about other points rather than the main part men stripping; for examples, layoff, broke, desperate, etc.. I remember Dave worried no one would be interested in watching him, and his wife said "I do, Dave". Quite a moment... reply share

It is these other points that audiences should be noticing. The Full Monty is primarily focusing on economic problems within a working class society, which in 1997 was prevalent after eighteen years of Conservative politics. To be honest, the economical situation faced by the characters is becoming worse in today's Britain.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.

Just recently watched this for the first time. I knew of it's reputation, but I wasn't expecting to be as good as it was. It was funny, touching, at times a bit moving... all around a great feel good movie!
