who else you think could have played the part of Gaz?

Thank heavens Robert Carlyle got the part because he is perfect in it imho.

(assuming the info is correct) I read that the producers & writers originally wanted Nicholas Lyndhurst to play the part of Gaz (Robert Carlyle).

Personally, though he was brilliant as Rodney Trotter, I do not rate Nicholas Lyndhurst that highly. I am just glad he had to turn it down, think it would have been a really bad miscast. I think the film would have flopped with him as Gaz :-(

Sean Bean? I think he could have pulled it off and I do rate him, read they could not afford him (?).

Maybe even Mark Addy. Thought he was brilliant and easily could have took the lead if needs be.

I agree, Robert Carlyle is terrific as Gaz in The Full Monty. I think Sean Bean would have been excellent too, but can't envision Nicholas Lyndhurst in that role at all. I could see him as Lomper, however.

Sean Bean, and maybe Tim Roth, although, I'm not sure if Tim can do a northern english accent. Gary Oldman would have been a good choice too.

I think Nicholas Lyndhurst would have been a good choice as Lomper too, but not as Gaz. I don't think Rik Mayall would have been a good choice for Gaz either. Rik is a great actor, but I don't think that role is right for him.

Robert Carlyle was PERFECT, & I just don't think Gaz would have been the same without that Carlyle touch 
