when the guys are watching Flashdance, Dave criticizes the girls welding saying there are too many sparks-hes right the actress was actually a welder and she was welding but the director didnt like the way it looked so asked to make it spark she told him repeatedly that that would make a bad weld, but he wanted it too look good, many welders critised her for the weld.

I don't think anybody was under the impression that what he said was incorrect.

The joke was that he was taking that part too seriously. It's a dance video, not an instructional video on how to weld. They'd obviously put the sparks in because they looked good, rather than for the accuracy.
