So, this has to be the movie with the most preposterous plot?

I'd say so. The list of why this Face-Off plan is stupid beyond believe and would never work is miles long.

reply

And somehow it was totally kick-ass movie lol Call them guilty pleasures but along with Con Air 1997 was just a great time to watch Nic Cage in action.

reply

Yes, also there are way more preposterous plots out there

reply

What is it about? DAH!

reply

Absolutely....like "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days"....talk about nonsense!

reply

Or the Twilight movies

reply

Yeah, but with Twilight, it's a fantasy movie, so you kinda give it some leeway, but this wasn't supposed to be fantasy. Also, the acting by both Cage and Travolta is hammy beyond believe.

reply

I'll take the Cage/Travolta ham over earnest Ashton Kutcher any day.

reply

Respectfully disagreeing with you about this movie. This movie was absolutely fantasy and it was 100% science fiction. Granted not on the level of Star Wars (you know, those movies where all the ships have gravity in space)... but, it really was more science fiction than just a big 1990's action movie like The Rock or Con Air.

reply

Listen to the podcast "how did this get made" about this movie and Con air. They will have you in tears laughing.

reply

Good times. Their episode on The Glimmer Man is gold, too.

reply

I want to watch glimmer man again before listening to it. It's been a long time.

reply

Come on in. The water's fine.

reply

Why is it stupid? There have been such things as face transplants for DECADES now, you know!

reply

You're a troll, right?

Did you see what these people with face transplants look like? Yeah, just cut off the skin and paste it onto someone else and you instantly look like the other person. Aside from having a looooong recovery time and having to take heavy medication to avoid rejection. You have to change the eye colour and form, hair, skull shape, nose shape, jaw, body type and shape, teeth. Holy fuck, to even believe that this is possible and that law enforcement would actually consider this is beyond stupid.

reply

I highly suggest you never watch Darkman (1990).
The main character is literally printing out other's faces using synthetic skin and simply wears them as masks. This enables him to perfectly impersonate characters that are of different heights and body constitutions, so well that he effectively fools their close associates and friends.
reply

Or Mission: Impossible tv series. It's one of their most famous tropes, wearing 3D printed face mask to instantly becomes the person. Surgeons not required. And that's back in the 60s!

reply

They would never be able to make Travolta look EXACTLY like Cage and vice versa. Yes you can alter someone's appearance but to alter their appearance in a certain way down to the very last detail is a one in a million shot.

reply

It's a movie. The plot is absurd, but fits in with dumb action movie logic.

reply

Yes. In every movie, you have to suspend your disbelief, but here you have to take your disbelief, drug it up, but it in a cage and not let it out until the movie is over. 😂

Having Travolta and Cage act like the other is the best part.

reply

I could never get past the fact that Travolta and Cage have completely different size of body. Even if some magical alien technology of easy face transplant would exist - they could never make Travolta slim and Cage puffy.

I wish movie would just create some brain or mind swap. That would be more believable. Like, oh, medicine progress is so huge that they learned to take brain put and out into another body. Or created some mind changing device. Like in that Lindsay Lohan Freaky Friday movie. People had no problem believing that some magic spell can swap peoples minds.

While Face Off went completely serious with their Face swapping thing and then "cut some hair" to turn Travolta to Cage. That was beyond ridiculous.

Still it was cool action movie.
