Nicholas Cage stole the show

I thought he was the most impressive actor in this movie. I loved him as the villain and as the hero. His performance in this movie was one of the best of his career. Travolta, on the other hand, was good for the short time that he was the hero, but but I didn't think he was that good as the villain.

he stole it? did the producers file charges?

How come signatures aren't cursive anymore

reply

no, travolta stole the show!

but this was cage's best film. the only film i liked him in anyway.

reply

I agree that this is Nicholas Cage's best performance but I think John Travolta is very good at playing villains and had the more impressive performance.

Personally, I thought they both did a fantastic job, and I had no trouble believing that they had switched faces. Except for, of course, Travolta's a bit thicker than Cage.

reply

They both did great to be honest. Both their performances as Castor Troy were identical however Cage looked a lot more fitting as Castor Troy but Travolta looks crazier simply because he's dressed up all nice and trimmed in that suit but he's got that crazy grin and gesture going at the same time.

This is arguably one of Cage's best performances and one of his best films. Too bad he no longer utilizes his acting skills to the best of his abilities nowadays with garbage like the Ghost Rider films.

I agree. He has one of the worst agents in Hollywood. He's a fantastic actor, but doesn't take any opportunities to utilize his talent.

I absolutely love Cage in this film. I never really was a Cage fan, but based on this movie, I looked up some of his other films. I was unimpressed. This is the only film with Cage in it, well, I did like the Rock, but it wasn't just for Cage. Anyways, this is really the only film that I watch specifically to see him. I love "Watch your F'ing Mouth". :)

no way, there is no competition. Both were meant to do each other roles( now that is a face off). One of the best of the best action thrillers!

reply

I thought Travolta stole the show. He just seems to have so much fun with both roles.

For Cage, I liked him as Castor but thought he got a bit over-the-top when he was playing Archer. Of course, his performance is here is still 100 times better than most of the stuff he's done since this movie.

Puh-lease John Travola WAS the movie!

real human being and a real hero

I love, love, love this movie, mainly for Nicholas Cage, but Travolta did a great job too. I don't know why this movie isn't more famous or highly rated than it is. Yeah, face-transplant surgeries is about as unrealistic as Joey's Brain Transplant in Friends, but John Woo made it work. I loved Travolta as Cage and Cage as Travolta. I remember when they won best Movie Duo by MTV Awards!! LOL I loved John Travolta missing his house then STARING at his wife on the front lawn like it was the first time he saw her then trying to talk her into not going to work, but to stay home for some afternoon delight.

"I hate to see you go, but I love to watch you leave."
Totally a Nicholas Cage line with a Travolta voice/face.

Amen to that, he was much better as Archer than he was as Troy.

I'm happiest...in the saddle.

Cage personifies bad guys. Travolta is good as a good guy.

I agree. Personally I never bought Travolta as a bad guy. I've been a fan for years, but it was always movies where he played a good guy. It's not just Face/Off, but even The Punisher. I didn't like him in that really. Cage was much more believable as a villain. I liked Cage as the hero too.

Agreed!

They were both excellent, but the scene that did me in and I'll never forget is when Nicolas Cage is supposed to have just had the transplant and is looking at his face in a mirror. The horror of the reality of having his own face be that of killer of his child was amazingly well done, without any dialogue.
