How did Sean Archer survive getting shot in the back?


I mean if you get shot in the back it's fatal. Isn't it? How did he survive that?

So if the bullet misses the vital organs or major arteries and if the wound is treated before significant blood loss you will survive. Am I right?

Yep. He even says to his wife if his wound was over here instead his son would be alive and she said "and you wouldn't be".

He had to have a backiotomy. It was explained in the prequel, Back/Off

I'm no authority on ballistics, but I'd think a high-powered rifle like the one Castor used would pretty much blow a hole the size of a ping pong ball through your back and chest. I'd only think survival would be possible if it didn't hit centre mass.
