Too bad the facial reconstruction technology....

isn't real now. So many burn/trauma victims could benefit. But then, we do have the ability to form mesh scaffolds and 'seed' them with the patients cells. We have come a long way, but it would be wonderful if this movies medical technologies were real.

Well, science is slowly but steadily progressing. one day we might have the technology to graft entire faces.

Applied Science? All science is applied. Eventually.

The number of faces being grafted increase each year. One man had not only the facial skin, but muscles, jaw bone with teeth and the entire nose. He has his life back,

reply

There have been a few recently. This one came out looking the best.

Yes! That's the fellow I was talking about. He went from 'stay at home so no one stares' to 'I can go anywhere now'. His life changed.

did they actually transplant someone elses face on him though?? was he born that way originally or a burn victim?

reply

Gunshot wound. Don't know if accidental or suicide. Yes they took the donors entire face from about nose down. Nasal cartilage and bone, upper jaw with teeth and lower jaw and teeth.

reply

I don't know if we'll ever get a facial transplant with another face. The human body rejects any foreign skin. This is why severe burn victims need to have foreign skin stapled to them if they don't have enough of their own skin for skin grafts. Skin grafts only work if it's the subjects own skin
