A DVD Release?

Does anyone know if there's a planned DVD release of Eight Days a Week? This was certainly Michael Davis' best film and naturally the only one of his trilogy (Eight Days, 100 Girls, 100 Women) not on DVD!

...Also, it sure would be nice to have this one in anamophic widescreen...also a director's commentary (and dare I hope, with the actors as well) would be amazing!

Does anyone even have the rights to put this film on DVD? It sure would be great if Criterion or Anchor Bay (for instance) would publish it...

Wishful thinking, perhaps?

There is a Region 2 Pal DVD available from Pathe. It is widescreen, the picture is clear and sharp but it does not have commentary or extras. http://www.blackstar.co.uk/ carries this very inexpensive title. The version on this DVD is the uncut print and contains the original "Joys of Sexuality" pictures that were changed for the U.S. tape release. Check it out!

Having looked for this some time ago on amazon and dvdstreet, my normal avenues for online DVD buying, and coming across nothing, I was suprised to find it on www.play.com for the bargain price of £5.99 including delivery. My credit card was out of my wallet so fast it drew smoke.

do region 2 dvd's work in PC dvd players?

reply

It depends on what software you're using not the drive, so the answer is yes :)

I don't get why no US companies have released this DVD while it's been around UK and wherever for a while already. I would certainly buy this for $10 or so.

DVD drives in PCs are also region coded...when you install a new DVD drive, a windows pop up asking you where you are located. Another message pops up saying you have 8 (I think) chances to change your region. Once over that number, your player will not be able to change regions. I would imagine that there are cracks out there for this already but I haven't researched it yet. You can buy some inexpensive DVD players that are easily hackable to play all regions.

American standalone dvd players can also be region hacked, just do a google search for your make model and "region hack" and you're in business. You perform the hack by a combination of buttons hit on the remote, its very easy.

Having said that, Sony dvd players usually cant be region hacked, seeing as Sony has a major interest in Motion Pictures they dont include this in the admin menu.

If you're looking to just play other region dvd's on your PC, then i'd suggest you just download VLC Media Player from www.videolan.org, it plays EVERYTHING without having to mess about, its the best pc media player out there, and its totally free( it also plays divx files without having to install nasty codec packs).

i heard this movie is being shown by HBO, i just can't seem to catch it. can someone tell me where and where i could catch it? thanks a lot!

Jesus, i want this damn movie for DVD. I tried looking it up pirated but there isn't any. Damn, I should've taped it when it was on. :(

You can burn a new copy of the original completely removing the region code with dvd shrink. If you do not have a burner you can save it to your hard drive. This will produce an exact copy and will play on your dvd player. DVD Shrink is free.

It's now available in region 1. I just bought it from Best Buy yesterday. No special features except the trailer but hey i'm just happy to have it finally on DVD.

reply
